Ford Motor Company was simultaneously manufacturing a car model with Essay
Ford Motor Company was simultaneously manufacturing a car model with transmissions made in Japan and the United States - Essay Example With the advent of software applications the SPC is now simpler to implement. Concept: To understand the concept behind the technique of Statistical Process Control, it is necessary to revise some basics of normal distribution and approximate confidence intervals. SPC specifically addresses the processes that exhibit natural variations. These variations are also called as common cause variations. These variations when plotted on a graph as data points represent a bell-shaped curve distribution which is known as Normal Distribution sometimes referred to as natural distribution. Some of the examples of normally distributed data are heights of people or weights of people. According to the same concept; any data which is bell shaped symmetrical in nature and has a tendency to follow the Normal Distribution usually approximately follows the following set of theorems: 1- That approximately 68% observations shall be covered within one standard deviation around its arithmetic mean. i.e. à µ à ±? 2- That approximately 95% observations shall be covered within two standard deviations around its arithmetic mean. i.e. à µÃ ±2? 3- That approximately 99.98% observations shall be covered within three standard deviations around its arithmetic mean. i.e. ... Statistical Process Controls enables the users to frame the correct and incorrect variations in a process. Based on the above mentioned concepts; we can create a process monitoring system which can assure us to observe the whole process running under two tolerance limits namely upper control limit and lower control limit. These limits are obtained by the same concept of approximate confidence intervals. So after setting the limits (which are also termed as pre-alarm) we can run the process and monitor each observation through a Process Control Chart. Therefore we can set the following definition of SPC: Statistical Process Control is a process that uses statistical concepts based Control Charts to analyze and monitor the behaviors of processes by assessing the variations in them. The main strength of Statistical Process Control lies within its Control Charts which furnish an easy and simple way to conclude whether the variations in a process are in the controlled limits or not. These charts are simple time based graphical representations of data that is related to a process. On an x-y axis graph, the time is generally represented on x-axis. The data points plotted are usually the individual readings, averages of subgroups or values representing ranges. There are additional horizontal lines used to represent the control limits. Multiple types of control charts are used to serve their respective purposes. Control charts are used not only to monitor the performance of a process but they can also help identify the factors that hamper the processââ¬â¢s peak performance. The output variance over time is considered out of control when it crosses the specific control limits that represent the normal levels of variations. The control limits are

Income Tax and Corporation Tax in the United Kingdom Essay
Income Tax and Corporation Tax in the United Kingdom - Essay Example The paper tells that historically, taxation in Britain was collected from serfs who paid rent to their landlords in return for protection. However, in the 1600s, a unified land law was passed which vested control and power to the Crown. Land and property taxes were collected from each landowner to support the government. In the 1800s, income tax was introduced, first to support wars and eventually, to support the UK government's deficit. Currently, Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs (HMRC) is in charge of collecting taxes in the United Kingdom. There are several types of tax that are payable periodically by certain entities in the UK. They include Income Tax, Corporation Tax, Duties on goods and services, National Insurance Contribution, Value Added Tax and Fuel Duty. All these taxes have different laws and guiding principles. This tax is levied on the profits of businesses. Corporation tax is calculated on the annual income of a business. It was first introduced in the Finance Act 1965 . Corporation tax in the UK is currently regulated by the Income & Corporation Tax and its subsequent amendments. According to Sections 6 and 11 of the Income & Corporation Tax Act (ICTA), corporation tax must be paid by three main groups of entities: 1. UK resident companies. This include companies that are incorporated in the UK. 2. Non-resident companies in the UK carrying out trade through a permanent establishment and 3. Unincorporated bodies which are not partnerships that fall within the scope of the tax like societies and voluntary associations. Section 8 of the ICTA (1988) indicates that there are two types of profits that are taxed in the corporation tax (McLaughlin, 2011): 1. The worldwide income of a UK resident company. This includes all the earnings of all the operations of such a company around the globe. 2. For non-resident companies that have permanent establishments in the UK, corporation tax is levied on the income of the UK permanent establishment. The Act goes further to define 'profits' to include revenue or income from three main sources (McLaughin, 2011). The first is the revenue accrued from normal operations of the company. The second is capital gains which encompasses revenue from the sale of an asset in an accounting period. Finally, profits include investment income and revenue from dividends and other earnings from other investments. The term 'accounting period' comes with complications. Depending on the circumstances of a business, 'accounting period' can be an event that determines the commencement o r termination of trade like the start of business or the termination of business (Section 12). An accounting period is normally required to last for a period of 12 months. In most cases, the financial year begins on 1st April and ends on 31st March of every year. Where the accounting period overlaps this period, it must be apportioned appropriately and taxes are calculated as required. In 2011, the corporation tax was 26%. Companies that earn between ?50,000 and $300,000 will be subjected to a lower tax rate of 20%. There are some marginal reliefs that are calculated for companies that earn profits between ?300,000 and ?1,500,000. This marginal relief ensures that such companies pay between 20 and 26%. However, companies earning over ?1.5 million in profits have to pay the full 26% of corporation tax. Income Tax Income tax is on an individual's earnings. It is calculated annually. It applies when a person earns beyond a certain amount, this is known as 'taxable income' (HMRC Income Tax, 2012). There are some reliefs and allowances that are granted to individuals in order to

Controversial analysis about the consumption of luxury brand Essay
Controversial analysis about the consumption of luxury brand - Essay Example Two of these factors namely the increased adaptation of the western lifestyle among the China population and especially the youth and the increase in consumer buying power within this population, are considered the driving force behind the obsession with luxury brands. Luxury is a subjective concept which is ever evolving. However, to most of us, luxury is basically an inessential but desirable things or a state of obscene comfort or indulgence. In this regard, one can looks at luxury brands as any other product whose only difference from its counterpart is only in its extra premium that is not backed by obvious functional advantages. However, consumers are always willing to pay the premium simply because of a set of unique characteristics, recognizable, reputation, or exclusivity of the luxury brand. The irony of these features working for a luxury brand is that majority of them vary across culture and therefore societies, something that can essentially be blamed on varying consumer attitudes and belief. This particular characteristic of luxury market exposes it main contradiction because it exposes the greatest level of hedonistic and irrational that consumption can ever get. In this paper I will be exploring the contradiction and ironies of the phenomenal surge in luxury market in China. In doing so, I will use an interview that I have conducted to a Chinese youth by the name Crystal. This will complement the tomes of literature on this topic that are available and that I will be heavily relying on to navigating this topic. Chinese are paying attention to luxury brand, a phenomenon that is raising the overall price of the luxury brand without necessarily adding any functional advantage on them as would be expected. They also cut across various retail sectors that include; footwear, jewellery, perfume, liquor, automobile, cosmetics, and fashion wear and accessories. One thing that one notes about

Academic Writing for Adults Class Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Academic Writing for Adults Class - Essay Example I believe that Academic Writing for Adults will be a good venue in which I could pick up pointers for improving my writing style. I understand that the course is for academic writing, which will provide me a greater opportunity to express myself better through my writing for the purpose of passing my courses, maybe even get better grades. In my youth, I had moderate difficulty in writing; I believe, though, that it was not so much because I was afraid of writing, or because I did not know how to write. At a young age, there appeared to be little to write about. I felt that I had not experienced as much as I had to in life, for me to gain enough insight to write about things. Of course, it was different about lessons. When needed, such as in an examination where essay writing was required, I usually could find enough to say, in order to create a decent-enough essay, and was confident in writing. When the type of writing is about impersonal things, such as subject matter that comes fro m lessons or a book, I have had little problems in writing. You might say that these are things that could be studied and memorized, then repeated when it becomes necessary to do so. However, when the requirement is to write about my personal insights and to venture my own opinions, I sometimes grope for the words that I must put together, in order to express what is formed as a concept in my own mind. Because of this, I feel that my problem with writing. In my youth, I had moderate difficulty in writing.

Point and Counterpoint Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Point and Counterpoint - Essay Example Such a leader has the ability to influence others on a personal level and not just through exercising authority. Thus, great leaders are experts in their field, lead by example, are fair in their dealings, have a natural charisma, have good knowledge and insight, are good at communicating and influencing others. Leadership may therefore be defined ââ¬Å"as the art of mobilizing others to want to struggle for shared aspirationsâ⬠(Kouzes, 2002:30). It makes people ââ¬Å"want to be part of the organization and not just work for the organizationâ⬠(Covey, 2004:217). However, the nature of todayââ¬â¢s globalisation also demands that leaders are not only adept in analytical and emotional intelligence but also in cultural intelligence. This is the leaderââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"capability for successful adaptation to new cultural settingsâ⬠(Earley, 2003) and the capability of influencing people of other cultures. These in turn requires a good ââ¬Å"conceptual understanding of differences among culturesâ⬠(Wang, 2006), expertise in handling physical aspects of cultural differences such as greeting rituals, and emotional aspects such as appreciating the complex relationship dynamics in a diverse workforce. Global and multicultural organisations nowadays seek those who have good cultural intelligence. Whilst all the aforementioned qualities are perhaps universally accepted as essentials of good leadership, as Andrew Ma (2009) points out with respect to altruism, there can be important differences between cultures in the perception of leadership values. In a comparison of the Chinese concept of altruism based on Confucian teachings (ren) and the Western concept based on Christian teachings (agapao), the author notes, ââ¬Å"the scope and nature of altruism is different in the two philosophies/religious traditions.â⬠Whereas the Chinese value ââ¬Ëgraded loveââ¬â¢ by loving their closer relations more dearly than others, Westerners (at least those who are more faithful to the Christian religion)

Business Ehtics Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words - 2
Business Ehtics - Essay Example In an organization this is complicated further by the larger numbers of people involved. What might be important to one individual may not be so to others. As the textbook notes, ââ¬Å"no one operates in a vacuumâ⬠(Ferrell, Fraedrich, Ferrell 126). Thus, many organizational factors influence the process as well. This can be factors ilke the corporate and ethical cultures, which affect how the organization views its ââ¬Å"values, beliefs, goals, norms, and ways of solving problemsâ⬠(Ferrell, Fraedrich, Ferrell 126). ââ¬Å"Obedience to authority,â⬠how likely employees are to obey, can influence the process by how eager employees are to ââ¬Å"resolve business ethics issues by simply following the directives of a superiorâ⬠(Ferrell, Fraedrich, Ferrell 127). Opportunity is ââ¬Å"the conditions in an organization that limit or permit ethical or unethical behaviorâ⬠(Ferrell, Fraedrich, Ferrell 127). These internal and external rewards can affect the process by making people more or less likely to act in a way that is ethical. For instance, if there is more of an opportunity to do unethical things due to a bad ethical culture, people will be less likely to make decisions

Movie review Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 7
Movie Review Example The opening scene can also be said to be well executed and even prepares the viewer for what is expected in the film at a later stage. The film later on transits to the main scene that touches on the return of Victor to Buenos Aires after the demise of his father (The Princess of France, 2014). Victor hopes to revive his previous work on the acting group for the radio play that was motivated by his getting a grant to produce Shakespeareââ¬â¢s plays. This style is indeed catchy and attractive to most of the viewers since they understand the theatrics applied by director Pià ±ero. The film also presents dramatic scenes of the female characters, but later the director shifts the story to the theme of the story that is explained by the Victor who struggles with the loss of his father by engaging in internet radio plays (The Princess of France, 2014). With this content and stylistic approach, the audience is glued to the next story and the ultimate end of the story. The most intriguing aspect about the film is the love triangle of Victor. The director explains how Victor learns that his longtime lover Paula had vanished and was also unfaithful to him. He slowly gets attracted to Ana who they had already conversed through email (The Princess of France, 2014). However, a great percentage of the women in the cast seem to have a strong attachment to him. In the course of his plays, Victor gets into rehearsals and recording plays. What makes this part noteworthy is the manner in which the camera focuses on Victor recounting lines from a play that show him swearing off women (The Princess of France, 2014). One can tell the confusion that Victor is going through, especially considering that he had a nasty past with the women. It would actually be argued that women have actually become a puzzle in Victorââ¬â¢ life. The most disturbing is how Victor struggles with the death of his father. It is even worse when he realizes that his former girlfriend h ad taken off.
